The sugar chain

In Brazil sugar cane is cultivated since the 16th century, initializing the pure plantation. The country holds the world´s largest production quantitiy, 420 million tons of sugar cane per year, producing sugar, ethanol and the hard liquor cachaça. The working conditions are extremely hard, workers have to gather at least 10 tons per day, payment and health conditions are often precarious.
